Happy Holidays!
I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you and yours are enjoying the holiday season thus far.
I’ve got a few things to tell you about, but first I wanted to let you know about a special event I’m doing. My sister, Tracie Stafford, is running for a California Assembly seat. To support her, I’m having a cocktail party fundraiser for her this Sunday from 4-6 PM. If you can join us, info on how to RSVP is HERE.
Here’s what I’ve been into the last couple of weeks:
MOVIE
KNIVES OUT is a pleasant surprise. I saw the trailer and thought that it looked dumb. Then my 16 year old niece wanted to see it so I took her. What a great movie!
It’s a murder mystery that’s like watching a game of Clue. The all star cast includes Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Don Johnson and Chris Evans.
It was so much fun that I’m going again even though I already know “who did it”!
GO.
READING
I’ve read three books the last few weeks and I recommend all of them.
CEMETERY JOHN
Robert Zorn
I’ve long been interested in the Lindbergh Kidnapping and the trial and execution of Bruno Richard Hauptmann, the alleged mastermind of what at the time was branded “The Crime of the Century”. It has long been suspected that Hauptmann had accomplices in snatching and killing Charles Lindbergh Jr. back in 1932.
Robert Zorn does a good job of making the case that the mastermind behind the crime was a childhood neighbor of his late father. Using profilers and investigative tools not available to law enforcement in the early 20th century, Zorn may have finally solved the case. It’s a great read.
ANGEL EYES
Ace Atkins
Robert B. Parker’s Spenser is back. This time he’s out of Boston and in Hollywood on the trail of a missing young actress who gets brainwashed by a cult. If you like crime novels, this one is for you!
THE 12 WEEK YEAR
Brian P. Moran
Do you make plans and set goals for the year only to fall short (or have completely forgotten them) by December 31? If so, the problem may be that since you have a year, you put off taking the immediate action necessary to achieve your aspirations.
This book is a system for treating twelve week periods as their own individual years, setting big goals and breaking them down into daily tasks that see them accomplished in three months.
It’s one of the most inspirational and valuable books I’ve read in quite a while.
READ.
PODCAST
A few months back, I recommended that you listen to the GANGSTER CAPITALISM podcast about the Varsity Blues college admission scandal that ensnared actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.
The podcast is back with an update on the prison sentences thus far as well as analysis on what those not yet sentenced can expect. This is a MUST LISTEN.
