Copie's Choice for the weekend of December 13

Happy Holidays!

I hope that you’re having a joyous holiday season.

Lighten UpThis week, I’ve been hard at work on the community’s New Year’s Eve standup comedy extravaganza LIGHTEN UP FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE.

My annual standup comedy concert returns to the San Leandro Performing Arts Center this NYE with ten of the funniest comedians working today.

It’s an early show that starts at 7 and ends by 9:30 so that you can be somewhere safe when the clock strikes midnight.

For tickets, call 1-800-838-3006 or go to brownpapertickets.com.

PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS BY MIDNIGHT SUNDAY AND PAY ONLY $50 WITH CODE COPIESCHOICE.

Here’s what else I’ve been into this week.

21 BridgesMOVIE

21 BRIDGES

Chadwick Boseman (BLACK PANTHER) plays a New York cop hunting the killers of seven of his fellow officers. He’s got one night to catch them and is able to get the city to close all 21 bridges, roadways and subways going out of Manhattan to prevent the murderers’ escape.

It’s a great thriller and a thoroughly entertaining two hour ride.

READING

I’m reading the book ON GRIEF AND GRIEVING by Elisabeth Kubler Ross as part of the research I’m doing for a writing project I’ll be starting soon. Ross is the one who identified the five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.

It’s a really interesting read with real world examples of how people cope with each of the stages.

PODCAST

21 BridgesI’ve recommended the podcast YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS, which is meticulously researched stories about Hollywood’s first 100 years.

The current season is called "Six Degrees of Song of the South." It’s a six-part series on the origins of SONG OF THE SOUTH, a film so racist that Disney will not rerelease it or include it in its new Disney Plus streaming service.

I learned A LOT about this film I didn’t know.

For example, did you know that the song "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" has its origins in a minstrel song called "Zip Coon"?

This is a definite listen.

EATS

KOKKARI ESTIATORIO has long bee considered one of San Francisco’s best restaurants. The other night, I got to see why.

Its Greek-inspired menu and ambience are just wonderful. I had a rotisserie leg of lamb that’s the best I’ve ever eaten. The Greek desserts are positively heavenly.

Kokkari Estiatorio is located at 200 Jackson Street. Reservations are a must.

Here’s where you can catch me performing in the coming days:

The Jewelry Box:
DECEMBER 13: The Marsh, San Francisco, CA, 8 PM
DECEMBER 14: The Marsh, San Francisco, CA, 5 PM

Lighten Up New Year's Eve:

Have a GREAT weekend!
