Happy Friday!
I know it's been a while since I've done one of these blogs. A lot's been going on. I'm flattered by the number of people who've written me that they really like Copie's Choice and would like me to resume writing it. Ask and ye shall receive! I'll do my best to send this out every Friday with an update on what I've been eating, reading, watching and seeing over the course of the week that might interest you. First, the elephant in the room.
Many of you want to know what's going on with me and KGO. For the past 7 months, my representatives have been negotiating with KGO radio for me to do a daily talk show. Unfortunately, as of this writing we are at a standstill. If, at some point in the future, Cumulus is willing to meet us halfway, I'll be more than happy to return to the station. In the meantime, I am continuing with all of the other projects I've been working on. I have a new play going into workshop soon, a new book in rewrite and a major television project involving one of my solo plays that I'm not at liberty to discuss publicly just yet.
For those of you who miss my take on the news and issues of the day during this incredibly contentious period, I have been doing a daily livestream on Facebook called The Noisy American. The name is a response to those on the right who say that critics of this administration need to “sit down and shut up”. The response I'm getting to Noisy has been incredible! My team is in the process of expanding the concept with a website, YouTube channel and podcast in the months to come. In the meantime, please follow me on Facebook (BrianCopie1) and engage in the conversation!
READING
I've read quite a few books since I last checked in with you. Here are a few that I really enjoyed and recommend.
ROBIN by Dave Itzkoff (This book made me cry.)
NIGHT MOVES (An Alex Delaware novel) by Jonathan Kellerman
FIRE & FURY by Michael Wolfe
RUSSIAN ROULETTE by Michael Isakoff & David Corn
CATCHING KING'S KILLER by James L. Swanson
OLD BLACK MAGIC (A Spenser novel) by Ace Atkins
CRUSHING IT by Gary Vaynerchuk
SAW
If you love the movies as much as I do, here's the best movie tip I can give you. The Lady Love and I joined AMC Theaters' A LIST. For $19.99 a month you can see up to THREE movies a week! Any movie playing at any AMC Theater including 3D, Dolby and IMAX. Your week runs from Friday thru Thursday. This is just AWESOME. You can easily spend $20 on one movie ticket in major cities like San Francisco and New York. I can't recommend this highly enough!
Most recently, we saw OPERATION FINALE, about the hunt for and capture of Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann. GREAT MOVIE. GO!
EATS
My daughter Carolyn and I had dinner with our pal Steve Moskowitz the other night at Papillon in Fremont, CA. If you're here in the Bay Area and you watch Check Please!, you've probably seen the episode I did reviewing it. It's apparently rerun constantly. Papillon has been one of my favorite fine dining restaurants since college. Got a special occasion coming up or a special someone you want to impress? Go there!
LIGHTEN UP FOR FALL
I've gathered a bunch of my pals and we're going to do one of our HUGE stand up comedy concerts one week from tonight at the San Leandro Performing Arts Center. The line up includes Frank Olivier (Tonight Show, America's Got Talent), Dr. Gonzo (The legendary Doc of comedy
Rock returns!), Sandy Stec (Marcus and Sandy in the Morning on 101.3 FM), Ronn Vigh (Fashion Police on E!), Stephen Pearl, Carla Clay, Tremane Webb and...some special surprise guests!
