Happy Friday!
I hope you’ve had a good week. Another busy one for me as I work on the new piece for the show I’m doing with my pal, solo play legend Charlie Varon (RUSH LIMBAUGH IN NIGHT SCHOOL, RABBI SAM) on surviving life in the Trump era. It’s called THE GREAT AMERICAN SHIT SHOW and we’ll each do a couple of new monologues on issues such as dealing with a friend who supports the president when you loathe him, canvassing to flip a red House seat in the Central Valley, #MeToo and more. We’re doing ONE SHOW ONLY on Saturday, November 24 at 5.

LISTENING TO
Last week, I told you about the new podcast BAGMAN, the first in depth report on the bribery investigation that led to the resignation of former Vice President Spiro Agnew in 1973. Agnew began taking cash bribes for state contracts when he was in state government and then governor’s mansion in Maryland. He actually had people bringing him envelopes filled with money in the basement of the White House as quid pro quo for federal contracts.
Episode 3 dropped this week and in interviews with Agnew’s attorneys and federal prosecutors in the case as well as archival sound, it lays out the Vice President’s strategy of fighting the imminent indictment by vilifying the free press and the Nixon Administration’s own Justice Department.
Everything old is new again. Give the series a listen.
BOOKS
Several weeks back, I recommended Craig Ballantyne’s THE PERFECT DAY FORMULA because I was rereading it. It’s a book that changed my life. A number of you have reached out to tell me that you’ve found it valuable as well.
This week, my daughter Carolyn and I headed down to San Diego to Ballantyne’s PERFECT LIFE RETREAT, an annual two day workshop on goal setting, productivity and gaining focus about what (and who) are important in your life. Among the guest speakers this year was Tim Grover. Tim
is the world renowned trainer of Hall of Fame athletes like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. He gave such an amazing and inspirational talk, I picked up his bestseller, RELENTLESS: From Good to Great to Unstoppable.
It’s a great read filled with valuable insight about the mindsets of high achievers. Lots of good takeaways. Pick up a copy!
GREAT LOCAL STAYCATION
The Lady Love and I took a staycation in San Francisco last weekend and stayed at Handlery Union Square Hotel. What a great local gem! Great rooms, service, location, staff... and room service.
EATS
Had brunch in Union Square at Sears Fine Foods. Hadn’t been there in years. The 90s actually, when Sydney Amber was the maitre d'. Sydney was a San Francisco treasure who greeted guests at the door until he passed away at the age of 106.
I always loved the corned beef hash and... it was just as good as I remembered.
Have a wonderful weekend!
