Happy Saturday!
A little late this week with COPIE’S CHOICE as it’s been insanely busy! In the last 7 days I’ve done five solo play performances, produced seven for myself and other artists, and I’m in preparation for three more shows I’m producing and five I’m performing in.
As I write this, I’m at the airport headed to Burbank for my first preview performance of NOT A GENUINE BLACK MAN at The Actors Group Studio tonight at 7. I’m be there on Saturday nights through March. If you’re in the LA area, join me! If not, send this info to your friends and family in that neck of the woods.
Tickets are available at BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006.
A limited number of discount tickets are available through Goldstar.
Since I’ve been so busy this week, I didn’t get to as much as I usually do.
But... here are a few things I got to for you this past week.
BOOKS
I read THE PRODUCTIVITY PROJECT by Chris Bailey. It’s an informative read. Bailey took a year between college and jumping into the workforce to study the science of productivity. What works and what doesn’t? He interviewed experts, experimented with getting up early, getting up
late, taking breaks, working straight through, completing large tasks all at once and a bite sized piece at a time. What he found through practical application is pretty interesting.
One thing that sticks out is his discovery that by taking half an hour to mediate and ground himself before the work day begins, he accomplished a lot more than if he’d spent that half hour working straight through. He found that other high performers who meditated got the same results.
The book is filled with useful insights like that. It’s a great first book to start the new year! READ IT.
PODCAST
SPOOKED is a great podcast that features everyday people telling their personal stories of the unexplained. My favorite so far involved a man who told the story of his grandmother who was suddenly stricken with an undiagnosable illness that hospitalized her and put her in a coma.
A priest who dealt in the paranormal discovered a voodoo doll in the woman’s image and impaled with needles buried in the backyard. Once the priest removed the needles and disposed of the doll, the grandmother made a remarkable recovery.
Spooky!

THEATRE
The experimental political show that Charlie Varon and I have been doing that we call THE GREAT AMERICAN SHIT SHOW continues to sell out everywhere we perform it! GASS is a series of short monologues on our personal experiences living in the current political climate.
We’ll next do the show at the Marsh in San Francisco on February 6 at 8 PM and in San Leandro in the Carnegie Lecture Hall in the main library at 7:30 on March 7.
Both shows are selling out, so get your tickets today.
