Copie's Choice for the weekend of February 8

Greetings From Hollywood!

I hope that you’re having a wonderful weekend. I’m writing this from 10,000 feet in the air as I head to “beautiful downtown Burbank” (did i just date myself with that reference?) for tonight’s performance of NOT A GENUINE BLACK MAN at The Actors Group Studio.

This has been a really cool run so far!

It’s a tiny, intimate little theater and it’s great to have this incredible shared experience with the audience members as they come with my on this journey filled with my “trials and tribulations of growing up as “the only one”.

I’ll be in Burbank tonight, then performing in the Bay Area the next few Saturdays. I’ll return to Burbank on March 16. If you have friends in the Burbank area, please send them. Tickets are half priced when you use the code GENUINE. Tickets are available at BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006.

Didn’t get to much this week as I continue to be buried in work but, here are a few things that I came across...

Book coverBOOK

As you know if you’re a regular reader of this blog, bestselling author Jonathan Kellerman is a friend of mine and I adore his Alex Delaware thrillers. The latest, THE WEDDING GUEST, hit the shelves this past week and I can’t wait to dive into it.

Alex Delaware is a clinical psychologist who, along with his best friend, LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis, investigates murders that have a twisted psychological angle. Got hooked on these books almost 20 years ago. Read one and you will be too.
READ IT.

PODCAST

I found an interesting new podcast this week produced by the Parcast network. Parcast does a lot of interesting shows on the unexplained. They have shows on unsolved murders, historical mysteries (did King Arthur really exist?)...stuff like that.

PodcastThe new podcast is called EXTRATERRESTRIAL and it investigates UFO sightings and claims. The first two episodes dropped this week and they take a critical look at the Betty and Barney Hill case. It’s considered to be the “grandfather” of modern UFO abduction claims.

The Hills claimed to have been abducted in 1961 while driving from a vacation in Niagara Falls to their home in New Hampshire. The case spawned a bestselling book (THE INTERRUPTED JOURNEY) and a 1975 television movie on NBC (THE UFO INCIDENT). I thought I knew this story having read the book and seen the movie as a kid. The podcast takes a really critical look at the claim and the evidence. It’s pretty interesting. Check it out!

EATS

Two great dinners this week. Visited one of my favorite restaurants, PAPILLON in Fremont. I’ve written about it many times in this space, and the TINHORN FLATS BAR & GRILL, a cool little place up the street from the theater I’m playing in Burbank.

Tinhorn Flats is a hopping bar/restaurant with a western theme, Mexican food influenced menu and live music on Saturday nights. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods, check it out! I love their huevos rancheros!

Tinhorn Flats Bar and Grill is located at 2623 West Magnolia Blvd in Burbank.

BTW
I’ve temporarily suspended my quest for the Bay Area’s best cheeseburger. I gained 8 pounds over the holidays! As soon as I finish whittling the weight off, I’ll resume. Probably next month.

I’m still taking your suggestions for my list. Send them to me at copie@briancopeland.com.
