Copie's Choice for the weekend of August 23

Happy Friday!

I hope that it's been a great week!

Charlie Varon and I are still on an endorphin high from our mini Bay Area tour of THE GREAT AMERICAN SH*T SHOW last weekend. We performed our monologues on life in the age of Trump to enthusiastic crowds in San Jose, Castro Valley and San Rafael and we were very warmly received. We're currently making plans to bring the show back to all three cities and more!

I've been hearing from a lot of you that you'd love for us to bring the show to your town. If you'd like us to come to a theater near you, send me the name of a 300- to 500-seat space in your community and we'll see what we can do. Just email me at copie@briancopeland.com.

Here's what else I've been into this week:

PODCAST

Dames Who DishI recently discovered that my friend Anne Muldavin and her girlfriend Gina are doing a FUN podcast called, Dames Who Dish. The Dames have created a deliciously fun 137 episodes to date where they drink wine and talk trash TV. It's a riot. They dissect the absurdities of The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Married at First Sight, Life After Lockup, The Real Housewives franchise and more. If it's trashy and on television, they're dishing about it. It's an entertaining (and funny) listen.

BOOKS

This week, I finished my umpteenth read of Steve Chandler's 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself. If you're a regular Copie's Choice reader, you know that I have been reading this life changing book for twenty years. I read one of the short, practical tips on motivation every morning before I head to the gym. When I get to the end, I start over again. I can't tell you how many rough times and discouraging periods this gem of a book has helped me get though. Pick up a copy. It'll help you too!

MOVIES

Good BoysWhen I saw the trailer for Good Boys, I've got to tell you that I wasn't impressed. It looked like another juvenile movie with foul mouthed adolescents. I took in a matinee the other day, primarily because I felt like seeing a movie and it was starting. Boy was I surprised. It's actually very sweet and it's laugh out loud funny. Produced by Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg, it's the story of three sixth grade best friends who set out on a quest to learn how to kiss before they attend their first “spin the bottle” party. Things go horribly awry and, as the cliche goes... hijinks ensue.

If you're squeamish about “adult language” coming out of the mouths of kids, it's not the picture for you. If, however, you remember what it was like to be a 12 year old trying to figure out the mysteries of the world, check it out.

FAVORITE PURCHASE OF THE WEEK

KenuI upgraded to an iPhone XR this week and needed to get a new car mount. I've had the worst luck with them. The suction cup ones eventually stop working and I find myself driving with the phone in my lap. The ones with the adhesive are tough to remove when you no longer want them there. The clerk at the phone store suggested the KENU AIRFRAME+ Portable Car Mount. I've been using it for a week now and its the best mount I've had. It clips easily to the air vent on your dashboard and it's easy to remove. It holds the phone tightly in place. I hit a big pothole on the road last night and the phone didn't budge. Plus, at under twenty bucks it's reasonable. They make it for Android and iPhone. I highly recommend it!
